Key Features

  • Aesthetic Appeal: Blackbutt features attractive pale brown to light golden-yellow hues with subtle, straight grain patterns, offering a modern and elegant look to any outdoor space. The uniform colour range helps create a consistent appearance.
  • Superior Durability: Rated as Durability Class 1 for above-ground use, Blackbutt is highly resistant to rot, decay, and insect attacks, including termites. It has a high density and Janka hardness rating of approximately 9.1 kN, making it an exceptionally strong and long-lasting option.
  • Fire Resistance: It is one of the few Australian hardwoods naturally certified for use in bushfire-prone areas, with a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) rating of up to BAL-29, making it an ideal and safe choice for many Australian properties.
  • Dimensions and Stability: The boards are available in 86mm width and 19mm thickness and are typically kiln-dried (KD) to enhance dimensional stability and reduce the likelihood of warping or twisting. They are usually sold in random lengths.
  • Low Maintenance and Versatility: The natural properties of Blackbutt make it a low-maintenance option. It can be oiled or stained to preserve its natural colour or left to weather to a soft silver-grey patina over time. It is suitable for a wide range of applications beyond decking, including fencing, screening, and garden furniture.
  • Sustainability: Most Blackbutt timber available is sourced from sustainably grown plantations and managed forests with PEFC or Chain of Custody certification, making it an eco-friendly choice for building projects.
