GL17 Merbau posts are premium, engineered, glued-laminated (glulam) hardwood products designed for high-strength, load-bearing applications in residential and commercial construction. They are highly regarded for their durability, stability, and aesthetic appeal in outdoor applications such as pergolas, decking, and Verandah posts. 

Key Structural and Material Ratings

• Structural Grade: GL17 (High Load-Bearing Capacity).
• Durability Class: Class 1 (Above Ground) – Lifespan exceeds 40-50 years with proper maintenance.
• Compliance: AS1328 (Glue Laminated Timber) and GLTAA (Glue Laminated Timber Association of Australia) approved.
• Bushfire Resistance: BAL29 rated (suitable for many bushfire-prone areas).
• Density: Approx. 850–1,000 kg/m³.
• Hardness: Janka hardness rating of 8.6 kN. 

Performance Characteristics

• Stability: Laminated construction minimises twisting, warping, and shrinkage.
• Appearance: Usually supplied as Select Grade (Grade A), providing a clean, rich, dark reddish-brown, and knot-free appearance.
• Treatment: Naturally resistant to termites and decay, reducing the need for chemical treatment.
• Moisture Content: Kiln-dried to 12-16%.

• Common Sizes: 70x70mm, 90x90mm, 115x115mm, 140x140mm, 190x190mm, 240x240mm 290x290mm and other custom sizes for larger spans.
• Applications: Pergolas, gazebos, veranda posts, decking, and structural beams.
• Installation: Suitable for above-ground, fully exposed environments. 

Note: Merbau is known to be tannin-rich, which can lead to leaching; care is required during installation to avoid staining surrounding surfaces.
