Key Features
- Aesthetic Appeal: The timber features a tight, often interlocking grain and deep red to dark red-brown hues, adding a classic, rich character to outdoor spaces. The sapwood is distinctly paler, a grey or cream-red.
- Superior Durability: Iron Gum is classified as Class 1 for both above- and in-ground applications, the highest possible rating, ensuring a service life of 25 years or more.
- High Density and Strength: The timber is extremely dense, contributing to its incredible strength and ability to withstand heavy foot traffic and harsh environmental conditions.
- Natural Resistance: Its heartwood has natural oils that provide excellent resistance to insect infestations (including termites) and decay, reducing the need for chemical treatments.
- Fire Resistance: The product is suitable for use in bushfire-prone areas and can achieve a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) of up to BAL-29 or BAL-40 certification, depending on the specific product and installation.
- Dimensions: The boards are typically available in 86mm width and 19mm thickness, providing a stable and sturdy profile. They are often kiln-dried (KD) to enhance stability and minimise movement.
- Sustainably Sourced: Many products are sourced from sustainably grown plantations in Queensland, often with PEFC or Chain of Custody certification.
- Versatility: Ideal for decking, this timber is also suitable for other outdoor projects such as pergolas, fencing, screening, and garden walkways.
Available Grades
- Standard and Better (S&B) Grade: This grade ensures high quality while allowing for some natural character features, such as gum veins or minor knots, which add to the timber's unique appeal.
